Open Letter to My Younger Self

Dear 22-year-old Catarina,

I have some things I’ve been meaning to tell you.

One lesson is to listen to your gut. The second is to be fearless in every challenge you face. Take risks, fail, and learn from those mistakes. I know that’s counter intuitive to me writing to you from the the future but it’s worth noting because the lessons you learn from mistakes are ones you can’t learn from anyone else.

A lot of people will tell you it can’t be done, look at you funny for whatever reason, and put you down. Don’t listen to them. They don’t understand you. You understand you. Above everyone else, you know yourself best and you should trust that intuition. You will always be judged by society and others. The attitude you have when things get rough will make you a better person in the long run.

Write more. Draw more. Paint. Read. And dance your ass off! You have many talents that you should begin harnessing early. Matter of fact, think of some cool names, buy the domain names and start at least one company under one of those cool names.

When it comes to love, follow your heart. There will be times when you have a nasty feeling in your tummy and you should listen to it closely. It’s there for a reason. Don’t waste time on people who don’t make you a better person and don’t bring positivity into your life.

Communication is key. You don’t possess this talent naturally and it will take some work but honesty is the best policy and the truth will always set you free.

Be kind to everyone you meet. You don’t know what impact they will have on your future or present.

Speaking of present. Enjoy it. Stop worrying about the future and enjoy the time you have now. With the people you are with now. They aren’t with you forever and this moment won’t last long either. Soak it all in. Take many mental pictures and keep them in your head to recall the good times later. Even better, take pictures like a mad woman.

Lastly, grow a garden, make waves, and kiss with passion each and every time. See you in 6 years.
