American poem in New Zealand paper

Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the birdies is?
The bird is on the wing, But that’s absurd
From what I’ve heard, the wing is on the bird!
– American poem, oft recited to children upon spring’s first flush. Anon. circa 1950
